The
use of the application of advanced yet user-friendly technology is seen
in many aspects of the airport's operation. In transfers for example, the
track transit system transport passengers between the main terminal building
satellite 'a'a - a distance of 1.2 km . The system which runs on rubber-tyre
wheels for comfort, is designed for a maximum passenger waiting time of
3 to 5 minutes and can carry up to 3800 passengers per hour each way. The
approximate travel time is 2 minutes each way.
The functional showcase of state-of-the-art, usr friendly
technology at KLIA is in the Total Airport Management System, TAMS. Referred
to as the 'heart' of the airport operation, it is developed around a series
of computer-based system, using advanced software. Malaysia Airport Berhad
controls this system which interfaces and integrates a common data and
communication network. It provides centralised control for the Airport
Operations Centre, Security Operations Centre, Engineering Operations Centre
and Network Management Centre.
